Rabbit Fun: Facts and Entertaining Toys for Rabbits
77Meet Rex
Interesting Facts
I bought my rabbit, Rex, about seven years ago, and he is still tons of fun! Having Rex for a pet has taught me things I never knew about rabbits.
Enjoy some of these interesting facts!
5. A rabbit can be litter trained! It's true. I simply place a litter box in the corner of his cage, fill it with Critter Litter, and clean it once each day. He took to it like a fish to water.
4. A rabbit's teeth never stop growing! He is a very gentle creature, but I cannot imagine the damage Rex could cause with those teeth. I make sure to provide him with plenty of chew toys to help him file his teeth each day.
3. Rabbits groom themselves. Often, I'll look in Rex's cage and see him using his front two paws to lower his ears so he can clean them. He likes to keep himself handsome ;)
2. Rabbits sleep with their eyes open. At night, Rex will stretch out in his cage and lay still. You would never know he was even sleeping if it weren't for the twitching of his nose slowing down.
1. When rabbits are happy, they hop! Obviously, I'm sure you knew this one! But it is adorable to see in person. When Rex is truly overjoyed, he actually hops to the side. He's showing his excitement.
Toys - What a Rabbit Likes to Play!
Rex is a very energetic rabbit, even at seven years old. He loves to play, (eager to try anything actually!) and interact, so here are just some thoughts on what other rabbits may enjoy as well.
5. Used paper towel rolls - Rex LOVES biting these and ripping them to shreds. It's almost like a game of tug of war when I hold onto the one end.
4. Empty cardboard boxes - If I lay these on their side, Rex will hop in out and of them, biting at the sides, stretching out, and hopping from one to another. Same can go for paper bags from the store!
3. Toys from the Pet Store - Simply put, Rex loves to chew anything that has a sweet taste. He loves the wooden toys such as carrots, celery and corn.
2. Rolled up pieces of paper - Rex loves to have this rolled to him, and then he will throw it back to you again!
1. Watching TV - Seriously, sometimes, Rex's favorite idea is to sit beside me while I watch a rerun of Friends. I love when he remembers how to relax! It doesn't happen very often...
Final Thought
Remember Thumper in Bambi?
How cute was it to watch that leg thumping a mile a minute?
In real life, when rabbits thump, it may actually mean they are upset or angry about something!
