Best Friends Forever: A Book Review
54
A Novel by Jennifer Weiner
At nine years old, it is easy to call someone your best friend. To call someone your BFF...
But things change. People grow apart.
Best Friends Forever centers around Addie Downs and Valerie (Val) Adler. As children, they were inseparable, but then life happened. While Addie was heavy and struggling socially as a teenager, Val blossomed with the cool kids in school. Under the surface, though, Addie was raised with a loving family, and Val comes from more of a free-spirited and (at times) reckless home.
Suddenly, fifteen years down the road, Val has reentered Addie's life, and she needs her help. She needs the best friend she had once before. As we journey through an adventure with the two girls, we also learn of their past through flashbacks.
There are certainly funny moments, the ones that make you smile or laugh on the inside. However, there are also the sad times, the ones about surviving a tragedy. Can these two friends truly reunite?
I was unfamiliar with Jennifer Weiner's work, (except for the film version of In Her Shoes), until I stumbled across this novel. Overall, I enjoyed reading it. Certain parts actually reminded me of someone from my past so I could relate. It was well written, and the plot was intriguing. However, I would have enjoyed more character development.
In summary, though, I would recommend this to someone searching for an easy, enjoyable read.
